Lesson duration: 75 minutes
Course duration: 3 months per level:

First course in astrophysics, teaching children the basic astronomical and physical ideas.Goal: interesting and fun introduction to physics and astronomy, developing intuition behind fundamental phenomena.

Semester 1
1. Structure of matter

atoms, molecules, periodic table, temperature, states of matter, what things around us are made of.

2. Solar System

 the Sun, planets, their structure, dwarf planets, asteroid belts.

3. Gravity

force of gravity, movement of planets, Kepler’s laws, cosmic speeds.

4. Universe

galaxies, their types and structure, universe, its timeline.

Semester 2
5. Structure of matter 2

fundamental particles and forces, structure of atoms, electrostatics.

6. Light

waves, wave nature of light, spectrum of light, how light is created, its energy.

7. Stars

classification and evolution of stars, how we study stars, their properties.

8. Earth

Earth’s rotation, change of seasons, the Moon, constellations.

9. Mechanics

force, work, energy, their relation and transformation.

Here we dive into deeper topics and use knowledge from the first course to explain interesting phenomena around us and to look into even finer structure of our universe!

1. Radiation

why some things are radioactive, why is it dangerous, how does nuclear power work.

2. Electricity

charges, their movement, AC, DC, electrical circuits, discharges, magnets, EM field

3. Space around us

structure and evolution of galaxies, dark matter, stars near us, and search for life in space

4. Tools for understanding physics

basic understanding of dimensions, vectors, units of measurement, linear and exponential proportionality

5. Putting it all together

four types of interaction, how they keep things from atoms to the whole universe together

6. Fancy physics

simplified but honest explanation of popular terms such as quantum mechanics, wormholes, singularities, dark energy, and so on

At this moment our knowledge is enough to look under the hood of seemingly simple everyday phenomena and understand all the intricate complexities of them. And of course, there are more grand mysteries of the universe for us to solve!

1. Us and the Universe

how we perceive the world around, how can we know something is true, what is time, and are we alone in the universe?

2. Light phenomena

how mirrors work, light polarisation, technology of displays, rainbows, auroras

3. Weather

wind, rain, thunder, storms, how we predict weather

4. Energy

energy transformation in various physical processes, how we will produce energy in the future
